July 7 marks the 50th anniversary of The Stooges second studio album, Fun House.
While initially failing commercial success and only peaking at 106 in the Billboard charts, this album developed a cult following and played an influential role in the development of punk rock music.
“FUN HOUSE is the raw and beautiful truth, it is beyond categorization, and I’ll be listening to it for the rest of my life.”d – Flea
In honor of the anniversary, Detroit’s Third Man Records is opening a free month-long exhibit that will display photos and memorabilia from the Fun House days. Attendees will be able to see private collections and memories from the band’s history. The exhibit runs from July 17th until August 7th.
Iggy Pop will turn 73 in April and released his 18th solo record, Free this past year. He is the only remaining member as the Stooges’ Dave Alexander, Steve Mackay, Ron, and Scott Asheton are no longer with us.
